FR – As a watercolourist, Sezer Inan Lefebvre conveys, through her paintings, a pictorial world steeped in tradition, delicacy and poetry.

Whilst her first name, Sezer, derives from the Turkish verb sezmek (to feel or sense), it may also be the inspiration behind her artistic career and her exhibitions (during the ‘Balades au jardin’ , or at the Uzès Golf Club, etc.).

Hello,

I’m delighted to meet you here in your creative world. Tell us about your journey before you settled in the Gard…

Thank you for welcoming me to your portrait gallery!

Originally from Samsun, a city in northern Turkey on the Black Sea coast, and after studying architecture in Istanbul, I devoted myself to my professional career for over 10 years.

Between presenting architectural, renovation and restoration projects, my world gradually opened up to other spheres, both professional and artistic.

Sezer 1 editedIt was during this time that I began painting – a leisure activity that became increasingly absorbing, especially since my arrival in France in 2018, when painting became my new profession.

You have chosen to express yourself through watercolour…

Indeed, watercolour remains, above all, my favourite medium, although I have been trying my hand at oil painting since 2024 – another particularly appealing area to explore – as well as linocut.

At the same time, I’m continuing to perfect my French! Through my courses at the University of Avignon, then at the Université Populaire d’Uzès and the AVF, I’ve laid the foundations for my artistic practice whilst immersing myself in the culture of my host country.

At the start of my artistic journey, I depicted doors and façades – no doubt a remnant of my past as an architect… Then, little by little, other themes emerged, either to meet the requirements of exhibitions or simply to follow my own inclinations: anatomical studies, memories of trips to Spain.

My favourite colours are soft and peaceful, reminiscent of the pastels I hold so dear. My bouquets of flowers evoke the scent of the garrigue; my still lifes, the passage of time; whilst my portraits and anatomical studies form a vibrant bridge between the model and the painting.

Yes, I have taken part in several workshops at various venues, whether for beginners or more experienced artists. Each time, it is a pleasure to share my knowledge with budding artists. Technique, choice of paints, materials, paper texture… A world of endless possibilities… I find teaching just as exciting as learning.

What’s more, I’m also been running since September of this year my own workshops, at my home. They are designed for both beginners & experienced painters: On Monday, from 2pm to 5pm & on Wednesday, same time.

So... I'm looking forward to having the pleasure to welcome new artists!

Many thanks to Sezer Inan Lefebvre for her contribution to this article.
