A visit to the Chapel of Saint-André-de-Sévanes

FRA fine example of Languedoc Romanesque art, situated a short distance from the village of Saint-Paul-les-Fonts, the small Benedictine chapel of Saint-André-de-Sévanes, whose origins date back to the 12th century, stands amongst vineyards and fruit trees.

Saint andre de sevanesAs you approach, the first thing you notice is ‘the radiating arch framing the entrance door, followed by the small columns with capitals adorned with acanthus leaves supporting the springing of the larger side arch’.

Restored at the start of the 21st century, the chapel hosts numerous cultural events. The arts that bring it to life today range from photography to sculpture, and from painting to concerts.

An overview of the artists who have placed their trust in the Saint-Paul Patrimoine Cultural Association to showcase their creations? The painter Pin Pin, the Point Ligne Couleur studio in Laudun, the photographers Mary-Joëlle Chapotet and Jean-Luc Neulat, the painter and sculptor Eve Grenet, the sculptor Didier Fournier… and the Photochouet club from Uzès, which will be part of this artistic scene during Heritage Days 2026, for a photography event focusing on local heritage.

The bonus point? For fishing enthusiasts, the two small lakes at the Moulin des Fontaines are the ideal spot for trout fishing and sampling the mill’s local produce.

About Saint-Paul-des-Fonts: The village owes its name to the numerous springs and fountains found there. This precious water has been flowing directly to the hamlet since the late 19th century.
