A closer look at the FANTASY GARDEN exhibition
Giving rise to the FANTASY GARDEN exhibition, the series of photographs by Sylvie Bessou, on display in the summer and autumn of 2026 at the Emotions sans modération café and second-hand shop, serves as a genuine link to the garden of her childhood, at the Domaine de Fontcouverte.
In this botanical collection, ‘the flowers are enhanced by a skilful blend of red, and sometimes black – a colour I’m particularly fond of – as well as white, which I believe accentuates the cinematic quality of my images.
I like to think of my photographs as a narrative told through objects, often in a graphic composition. Flowers are like the pulse of life: a flower upon which to rest one’s soul, a testament to strength within gentleness… Flowers as a refuge; nature is ever-present in my images’.

‘That’s how I began – by photographing landscapes to create imaginary settings. What interests me most is the poetry that emerges from the chosen subjects, the delicacy that radiates from them, sometimes with great restraint’...
I love ‘outdoor’ shoots, working in wild locations where you have to adapt to the weather, capturing a ray of sunshine, the wind, the flight of a bird passing through the frame…
Through the lens of Die Frau
‘Die Frau – The Woman – is like Sylvie Bessou’s emblem, a sort of eternal femininity, and a warrior too, which allows her to see in these images feminine figures who are like daughters to her, and a sense of integrity that resonates deeply with her work’.

Her photographs, described as ‘very sunny, very minimalist’, offer ‘subtle works, imbued with gentleness and poetry’, with vast creative scope.
But Die Frau is also characterised by a unique ability to listen, in order to ‘bring out the best, elevate the image, and find the thread of a story to tell’.
‘I look for the best angle; I try to capture the essence of the subject at that precise moment. Beauty offers a broad spectrum and can be found in unexpected places, which I delight in unearthing’, Sylvie emphasises.

Sylvie Bessou has been devoting herself to every aspect of photography for almost thirty years. After winning the Grand Prix at ETPA, the Toulouse School of Photography, she has gone on to work as an artistic director, filmmaker and photographer, and ‘enjoys shedding labels to embrace a wide variety of subjects’.

Her logo? A diamond, which offers some insight into her essence. ‘A powerful, classic, multi-faceted symbol, it shows that Sylvie carefully cultivates a versatility that leaves no room for routine.’
From head of the visual department at a creative studio to her move into music video direction, the photographer has indeed built a career centred on imagery and visual identity, working with renowned artists and prestigious brands.
Sylvie Bessou’s secret garden, Die For Stories
When it comes to Die For Stories’ debut, it is ‘a dark, secret garden, the shining face of the moon’… deeply inspired by fantasy, symbolism and Victorian Romanticism, which unfolds – as in the ‘Black Garden’ or ‘Résurrection’ series – perhaps also referencing Celtic legends, or memories, who knows, of her distant Welsh origins that fuel her imagination in a celebration of shadows… The photographer masters the entire creative process, from conceptual development through to production choices, including outdoor shoots where she enjoys confronting the elements.
‘Die For Stories’ is a creative world that now navigates freely between sun-drenched images and a realm where elegance rubs shoulders with the mysterious and the secret’.
And we can confirm that the artist’s whimsical perspective cannot fail to make an impression, given that her quest for the perfect light and the perfect composition is honed to the very highest degree…
