FR - At a time when remote working is becoming widespread and access to education is following this trend, we wanted to introduce you to the educational initiative of BAAC to School, a new generation online school.
‘Conceived in 2015 by Bernard Afflatet, a mathematics teacher and e-learning instructor since 2010, and his partner Joanne Bai,’ BAAC to School has found its audience since November 2021 "under the impetus of the Covid crisis and the influx of requests from families concerned about placing their children in home schooling.'
Let's chat
A private, non-contract school, BAAC to School is linked to the Montpellier education authority and academy. Aimed primarily at 'children neglected by the institution (school phobia, bullied, prone to dys disorders, ADD, HPI, disability‘... it is also perfectly suited 'to artists, high-level athletes and students living abroad to have a normal education'.
Seven passionate teachers, in addition to the founders, share the teaching of French, history, mathematics, physics, chemistry, life and earth sciences, English and Spanish, subjects taught in regular middle and high schools.
‘Our programme? It's the same as the National Education system. All our courses are written by nearly 3,000 teachers, enabling each of our students to reach the level required by the local education authority,’ explains Bernard Afflatet.
An online school for middle and high school students
'Whether live or recorded, distance learning courses are a participatory educational project.
(Our teachers are particularly attentive to their students, and each one is aware of the various issues they may encounter....
Our schedule is organised around four mornings a week, from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., for middle school students. High school students have classes from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. In total, we have seven classes.
The classes are intense but deliberately short, which means that students easily find a more flexible and relaxed pace of work than in a traditional school environment, while still working hard. This is a real asset in ensuring their academic success,' emphasises Bernard Afflatet.
‘However, in order to create a primary school section, we would need a minimum of 15 pupils per class, which is not yet on the agenda, although we are considering it.’
An approach based on kindness
Listening is the watchword at BAAC to School and the guarantee of resuming one's education under the best possible conditions.
'In addition to videoconference lessons, PREMIUM programmes allow students to interact with the class or teacher by speaking up – raising their hand, just like at school! – in private or public conversation, or by writing in the ad hoc space.
All course-related documents are of course available to students and posted online along with teachers' annotations. They are available for replay for three months, 24/7. Not to mention that, like any traditional school, we have a specific interface dedicated to school life (ENT), where each student can request to communicate with their teachers, receive assignments and corrections, summary sheets... and their school report, depending on the programme chosen'.

BAAC to School offers three programmes: The PREMIUM programme and its specific Prométhée pronote... to enjoy all the benefits of BAAC to School. The ECO programme, a less expensive version designed for more independent learners. The PREMIUM CARD programme, for à la carte lessons.

Lessons & more
'As part of our teaching, we offer:
- Multiple-choice questions to test your knowledge of what has been covered during the week, which can be downloaded, scanned and returned once completed, just like homework assignments.
- Textbooks from educational publishers available on paper, PDF, online or digital formats.
We actively prepare students for the Brevet and Bac Scientifique exams, currently offering three specialisations: Mathematics, Physics-Chemistry and Life and Earth Sciences,' explains Bernard Afflatet.
‘Our teachers often wear two or even three hats and are available to teach other subjects such as philosophy, digital sciences, geopolitics and English literature as a foreign language outside our structure... The aim is always to respond as best we can to the wishes and needs of our pupils.’

'We offer families wishing to embark on the path of home schooling some guidance on how to complete the various administrative forms. In this case, they must request approval from the local education authority to enrol their children in home schooling, submit an enrolment form to their local council and to the local education authority (DASEN of the local education authority responsible for their area),' explains Bernard Afflatet.
'It should also be noted that, in the context of distance learning, each pupil is not enrolled at our school but at home. This is why it is important to be aware of the mandatory administrative monitoring requirements. Once a year, a member of the education authority visits the pupils' homes to check their work and progress'.
